About

bloGeescht is a nick I created when I was searching for a domain name that could be used as a title for the weblog I planned to start, back in 2006. On the one hand I wanted the term blog to be a part of it, on the other hand I tried to find a signified that could easily be recognised in the blog title. A third criterion was my intention to partly write in my mother tongue Lëtzebuergesch, so why not choose a Luxembourgish title right from the start? Finally, because my son – while he was learning to talk – used to pronounce the color blue (which spells blo in Luxembourgish) rather with a p as the initial phoneme instead of a clear b, making it sound like plo, I realised that terms containing plo could also serve my purpose. So the concept Plogeescht which can be translated by teaser or pest came to my mind. All I had to do was exchange the initial letter by changing the P to b (or graphically speaking slip the semicircular curve down the vertical bar) and the neologism that would become my blog title had been created.

As from the beginning I intended to use this blog not only to rave, but also to rant about things that bother me, a blog title referring to a term meaning teaser suited me well to hint at the critical aspect of personal comments I publish under this domain. On the other hand, the literal meaning of blo[e] Geescht can be translated into the English expression blue mind which could as well be understood as sad mind due to the familiar meaning of the color blue. So bloGeescht also gives the visitor a hint about another facet of this blog reflecting one of its author’s preferences.

Now that I have outlined the genesis and relevance of this blog’s name you might ask yourself some questions about the author. However this page is not meant to give you details about my appearance, my residence or my position – not because I am trying to hide behind some nickname or even false identity (in these times I think it would rather be a hell of a task to achieve), but because anyway some of those informations can be found via the contents I offer on this website. And for all those curious people, there is still Google.

Finally I would like to point out that this blog has to be seen as a private project which I run in my leisure time and where I express my view as an individual. Most of the time the contents I produce myself are published under the Creative Commons, unless otherwise expressly indicated. This blog gives me the opportunity to express personal thoughts as well as to gather feedback by allowing comments to visitors. I believe that interchanging private opinions in the public domain – be it at meetings of people in real life or in online communities like the blogosphere – can contribute to personality development which in turn can bring forward society, hopefully in the right direction. So if you feel like discussing some topics you might discover on this blog, you are welcome to comment, because creativity and communication matter.
